Odd this day
It’s the 26th anniversary today of the release of Joe Pesci’s album Vincent LaGuardia Gambini Sings Just for You:
The idea is that the album has been put out by the lawyer he plays in My Cousin Vinny. What’s odd about it is that it’s Pesci’s second album. His first came out 30 years earlier:
After he formed a comedy act with Frank Vincent, though, they both appeared in a movie called The Death Collector, which Martin Scorsese saw, and both got cast in Raging Bull, and Pesci didn’t need to sing (professionally) much after that.
…until 2019, during his semi-retirement from acting, when he released Pesci… Still Singing:
Not, you understand, that I think this is in any way funny, or that Mr Pesci is funny like a clown, that he amuses me, makes me laugh, or is here to fucking amuse me. Just, you know — I’m just telling a story and everything.
