Odd this day

Happy 51st anniversary of the day Roger Moore recorded this in his Live and Let Die filming diary:

The children arrive tomorrow, and I wonder if Geoffrey will realise I am Bond when he sees me in action. Just before we left England he asked: ‘Can you beat anybody, including a robber?’ ‘Oh, yes,’ I replied confidentially. ‘Supposing James Bond came in,’ he persisted. ‘Daddy is going to play James Bond,’ I explained. ‘I know that,’ he sighed impatiently. ‘I mean the real James Bond, Sean Connery.’

It’s also 122 years since Annie Edson Taylor celebrated her 63rd birthday by becoming the first person to go over Niagara falls in a barrel and survive in search of fame and fortune, which sadly continued to elude her.

…and it’s the bittersweet third anniversary of Kip Freshwater shouting “smelly pants wee” in an echoey underpass on his way for acute lymphoblastic leukaemia treatment at Birmingham Children’s Hospital — a moment immortalised in this plaque:

A blue plaque on a grey wall in Birmingham which reads “Smelly pants wee — 24 October 2020. Kip Freshwater (2016–2021) on this spot shouted “Smelly pants wee!” which brought joy to thousands worldwide”

…and broadcast to a grateful nation a few days later by Simon Mayo and Mark Kermode:
